Judging from the name, you might venture that it is a blogging website with a focus on Negril, Jamaica. Negril, Jamaica is the focus, but the site is about much more than just blogging about Negril.
NegrilBlogs is about connecting people. My twenty years of travel to Jamaica has been rich with beautiful scenery, fantastic music, great food and above all, wonderful people – both locals and travelers alike.
Almost every regular traveler to Jamaica can recite their own list of favorite drivers, rooms, bars, eateries, vendors, and the cast of characters making up their personal adoptive Jamaican “family”. The colorful tales that have been spun could fill many volumes.
We have stayed in touch over the years through our visits, via telephone, internet message boards, email, chat and instant messengers. We have become a loosely organized community that spans continents, yet we’re never more than a simple keystroke away from each other.
Over the years, many “Trip Reports” have been written on various message boards by travelers, recounting their adventures on the island. These reports have ranged from simple lists of places visited and sights seen, to expansive multipart sagas. Unfortunately, too little effort has been made to catalog and preserve these stories for future readers. The loosely organized and ephemeral nature of message board posts has made them a less than ideal choice for storing trip reports.
Message boards are a good choice for deep discussion of topics within a online community. They fall short however, when it comes to serialized content like multipart stories or trip reports.
There is no easy way for a member to keep their trip reports together as a set, spanning multiple trips over multiple years, organized by date, location, etc. Sharing trip reports with their favorite social networks or other websites is basically unsupported.
